That’s not it, he won the title of Mr Olympia seven times! Now, that is something.

Apart from Ronnie Coleman, Arnold Schwarzenegger is the only one who is considered the greatest bodybuilder of all time. Such is his weight in the world of bodybuilding that the second largest bodybuilding event in the world, the Arnold Sports Festival is named after him. The biggest one is Mr Olympia, and Arnold Schwarzenegger has already proven himself worthy of the title a whopping seven times.

He has been given numerous nicknames, and justifiably so. When Arnold Schwarzenegger was in his bodybuilding era, he was known as the “Austrian Oka” because of how tall, well-built and sturdy he was. To be able to look like what he did at such a young age is indeed a feat of its own.

Apart from that, he was also lovingly known as “Arnie,” and “Schwarzy” when he was at the peak of his acting career. As an ode to his most popular role, he has been deemed the “Governator”. A wordplay on governor and Terminator during his political stint in California.

Bodybuilding career

Arnold Schwarzenegger was influenced by his father, Gustav, who was an athlete himself. He encouraged both of his sons, Meinhard and Arnold to become champions in Bavarian curling. Arnold was deeply inspired by this and decided to play as many sports as possible. Also, he started focusing on his body more.

He began weight training as a serious sport in 1960 with the help of his football coach who introduced him to the local gym. When Arnold Schwarzenegger was fourteen, he decided to let go of football and started focusing on bodybuilding.

Despite being on the thinner side when he had started body-building. Arnold was strong and sturdy because of his continuous engagement with physically challenging sports such as soccer.

How did it turn into a professional bodybuilding career?

This enabled him to start Olympic weightlifting at the age of fifteen itself. If you have been looking for a sign, then this is it – go and indulge in sports. Later, return to the gym with renewed inspiration and strength.

His parents wanted specific things for him. His father wanted him to be a police officer. Also, his mother wanted him to go to trade school as a practical decision. However, young Arnold’s mind was resolute. He had started his training with Dan Farmer and had studied psychology intensely at the age of fifteen. He was eager to learn about how the mind has power over our bodies. When he turned 17, he started taking part in competitions and thus started his glorious career.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was also a fan of the movies, and even in them, he liked to see powerful people. He would often frequent the local theatres to watch his idols show their prowess on screen. He was a big fan of all the classics such as Steve Reeves, Reg Park and Johny Weissmuller. They motivated him and perhaps set some fire in him that made him turn to movies later on in his career.

Peak Turns in His Life of Arnold Schwarzenegger

He found the right motivation and direction at all stages of his life. In 1961, Arnold Schwarzenegger had the chance to meet Mr Austria – Kurt Marnul who invited him to Graz for training. This made perfect sense for Arnold, as he was dedicated to his craft; so much so that he would break into the local gym on weekends to keep training despite the gym being closed.

His streak of winning continued even when he was serving in the Austrian army in 1965 as it was compulsory for 18-year-olds in Austria at that time. He won the junior Mr Europe contest, however, he had to go through a lot of hardships to win it. He decided to not inform his seniors about his leave to train for the contest and had to spend a week in a military prison as a consequence. However, none of it phased Arnold, who was dead set on winning and becoming the strongest version of himself.

He had the chance to be mentored by his childhood hero Reg Park and this eventually led to him becoming the youngest Mr Universe at the mere age of 20!

You must be shocked to know that he is seventy-five! He looks ageless if we say so myself.

To gain a body like Arnold Schwarzenegger, you will have to sweat it out diligently in the gym and focus on your goal. Do not lead astray because of fickle distractions.
