Lack Of Sleep Kills Your Libido

Getting a good sleep is very important. Whether you need to search far and wide for the best hybrid mattresses or develop an evening routine to wind down, you need to do all you can to get a good sleep.

A lack of sleep can make you irritable, hurt your memory and send your productivity and energy levels on a nosedive. But not only can a lack of sleep hurt your performance at work or school, it can also hurt your performance in the bedroom. If you struggle to fall and/or stay asleep, it could be hurting your libido.

But just why does a lack of sleep hurt your libido? What aspects of this deprivation lead to a lower sex drive?

It Lowers Your Testosterone

Perhaps the biggest reason that a lack of sleep hurts your libido is because bad sleep lowers your testosterone. A lack of sleep can throw your hormones all out of whack, including testosterone. Testosterone plays a massive role in the sex drives of men, and if it is lowered, their libido will follow suit.

While experts still aren’t 100% sure how testosterone increases libido, a decrease will more than likely lead to a decline in sex drive. In addition to hurting your libido, low testosterone has also been linked with erectile dysfunction in some cases, especially in cases where sleep apnea is present.

There are ways to artificially boost testosterone, but simply fixing up your sleep schedule should do the trick. Many may think that only men have testosterone, but women also have the hormone and it also influences their sex drive, as well.

Makes You Very Tired

Of course, a lack of sleep also makes you incredibly tired. And the last thing most people want to do when they are tired is be intimate with their partner. They simply don’t have the energy or desire, and would rather sleep.

Even if you are able to be intimate while tired, it certainly won’t be as enjoyable as it could be in many cases. So not only does being tired hurt your drive, but could also have an impact on performance.

Being tired can also make you more irritable, angry and moody, which are not the best emotions for becoming aroused and intimate. If you are constantly tired, there will be less opportunities for intimacy with your partner, which can put a strain on the relationship in some cases.

There is a Link Between Sleep and Depression

Depression is an unfortunately common part of life for many people. There are many types of depression that impact the lives of millions of Americans. Many things can cause depression or make it worse, including a lack of sleep. This is because insomnia is a common symptom of depression, which makes it incredibly hard to fall asleep.

As you could imagine, being depressed doesn’t exactly help your sex drive and the last thing many people experiencing this want to do is become intimate. While it isn’t quite known whether a lack of sleep from insomnia can cause depression, or whether depression can cause insomnia, but either way, a lack of sleep that is depression-related will almost certainly hurt your libido.

As you can see, there are several different reasons how a lack of sleep can hurt your sex drive. If you want to increase your libido, be sure that you are getting restful and high-quality sleep every night.
